About Tidalis

Do you want to be part of our innovative team that helps protect “The Great Barrier Reef”, make our waterways safer and more secure and optimize the efficiency of the world’s largest ports? Then keep reading! We serve clients around the globe with advanced solutions in the areas of maritime traffic, ports, and terminals. Together, we ensure the safe and efficient movement of people and goods in the maritime world.

Your Role

As a Configuration Engineer, you turn a designed system into a working, tuned and accepted solution. Working from the design and requirements set by the Systems Engineer and the E2E System Architect, you configure the Tidalis application suited to the customer’s operational environment and prove that it behaves as intended.

You own the configuration of everything the operator sees and works with, and you set up the standard sensor and tracking parameters that come with a proven baseline.

You perform the functional testing and the preparation and execution of Factory and Site Acceptance Tests, and you own the findings until they are closed. For the customer’s operational staff, you are the face of how the system works day by day.

You also make each next project easier by turning what you configure into reusable templates, test sets and documented practice.

What will you do?

  • Build, maintain and document the application configuration baseline for a project, ensuring it correctly reflects the agreed requirements and design.
  • Apply and verify standard sensor and tracking settings from the proven baseline and recognize when observed behavior in the traffic image needs specialist analysis — engaging a Systems Engineer from the tracking expert group.
  • Translate the customer’s operational procedures and ways of working into concrete system configuration.
  • Design and execute functional test sets, verifying system behavior against requirements and operational use cases ahead of acceptance.
  • Prepare, coordinate and execute FAT and SAT, including customer-witnessed validation, and – based on the acceptance criteria defined by the Systems Engineer -produce the test plans, procedures and reports that go with them.
  • Own and drive the full life cycle of findings from testing, validation and acceptance, driving resolution with software development and testing, the relevant expert groups and the Systems Engineer.
  • Act as the primary point of contact for customers’ operational staff on day-to-day functional application behavior and configuration choices, and support or train key users where needed.
  • Identify and resolve the difference between what the product does and what the customer expects, escalating genuine gaps to the Systems Engineer or System Architect rather than solving them with one-off workarounds.
  • Feed structured observations from testing and site tuning back to the tracking and sensor specialists, so that recurring adjustments end up in the standard baseline instead of in project-specific settings.
  • Standardize: develop reusable configuration templates, parameter sets, checklists and regression test sets, and keep the functional knowledge base current.

What do you bring?

  • A bachelor’s degree in computer science, Electrical Engineering, or a related field — or an equivalent level through experience.
  • Affinity with configuring and parameterizing complex software products rather than developing them from scratch.
  • Experience with structured testing: test design, execution and reporting. ISTQB or similar certification is a plus.
  • Comfort with configuration files and data formats (XML, JSON, YAML), basic scripting (Python, Bash), SQL and log analysis.
  • Working knowledge of Linux and networking — enough to isolate a problem with a Deployment Engineer before escalating it.
  • Precision and documentation discipline: your configuration is the reference against which a customer accepts the system.
  • Strong communication skills: you can explain system behavior to operators and traffic managers as easily as to software engineers.
  • Understanding of how radar, AIS and other sensors produce a traffic image, and of what the tracking chain does with that data — enough to interpret what you observe and ask the right question. Deep radar or tracking expertise is a plus, not a requirement.
  • Knowledge of the maritime domain, and of VTS operations, is a strong plus.
  • Fluency in Dutch and English, spoken and written.
  • Willingness to spend approximately 20% of your time at customer sites, domestically and abroad.

What do we offer ?

  • An inspiring, collaborative, and technically challenging work environment where innovation and learning are encouraged.
  • A competitive salary that reflects your experience, skills, and educational background.
  • An Individual Choice Budget (IKB) of 13.15% of your salary, which can be used for additional leave, extra pension contributions, or paid out directly.
  • 20 statutory vacation days per year, with the option to purchase up to 20 additional days through your IKB.
  • A premium-free pension scheme, resulting in a higher net income.
  • An annual net vitality allowance of €272.50.
  • The opportunity to contribute to solutions that have a real impact on global maritime safety and efficiency.
