Your Role
Owning the big picture of end-to-end system design.
As a System Architect, you are responsible for the design and integrity of end-to-end systems across projects and platforms. You ensure that systems are coherent, technically feasible, compliant, and operationally ready throughout the full customer lifecycle.
Your focus is on system-level architecture, where software is one of several components. Application- and code-level software architecture are owned by Software Architects, allowing you to concentrate on overall system coherence and quality.
You act as the final authority on system architecture within your scope, making architectural decisions and go/no-go approvals for deployments. Beyond individual projects, you hold architectural responsibility for platform evolution and reuse, shaping sustainable and scalable system solutions.
What will you do?
-
Design and maintain end-to-end system architecture for projects and platforms, ensuring coherent, robust, and scalable solutions.
-
Align project-specific designs with reusable platform building blocks and architectural principles.
-
Define architectural frameworks, standards, dependencies, and responsibilities across internal teams, customers, and suppliers.
-
Ensure systems meet functional and non-functional requirements (security, high availability, performance) to minimize risks and failures across the full customer lifecycle, including long-term use, maintenance, and evolution.
-
Maintain the Requirements Traceability Matrix (RTM) to ensure traceability from requirements to architecture decisions and implementations.
-
Review and validate integrations with customer, supplier, and third-party systems to ensure reliable data flows and system interactions.
-
Make architecture go/no-go decisions for deployments, ensuring systems are robust and operationally ready.
-
Architecturally prepare operational readiness, including deployment, updates, tooling, and lifecycle concepts, and support Delivery teams through acceptance and handover.
What do you bring?
- Bachelor- or Master degree in a relevant field (e.g., Computer Science, Systems Engineering, Electrical Engineering) or equivalent demonstrable experience.
- Minimum 5–10 years of experience as a System Architect / Enterprise Architect / System-of-Systems Architect.
- Experience with complex end-to-end systems, infrastructure (on-prem/cloud/hybrid), networks, data flows, high availability, and security.
- Experience in requirements engineering and traceability (RTM).
- Experience collaborating with software engineering teams, configuration management, and software releases in a system context.
- Experience in mission-critical or business-critical environments.
- Preferred qualifications include experience in maritime or regulated environments, TOGAF/ArchiMate certification, and knowledge of maritime sensors and traffic management systems.
- Fluent in English, both spoken and written. Dutch is an advantage.
-
Strong analytical mindset to structure complex systems, dependencies, and solutions.
-
Confident decision-making, including timely and well-founded go/no-go decisions under pressure.
-
Clear communication skills, able to translate complex technical topics for diverse stakeholders.
-
Influence and persuasion, building support for architectural choices without formal authority.
-
Collaborative strength, connecting system architecture, software, infrastructure, platforms, and operations.
What do we offer you?
- You will work in an inspiring, enjoyable, and technically interesting environment.
- The salary is attractive and aligned with your work experience and education.
- Your individual choice budget (IKB) amounts to 13.15% of your salary and can be used for extra leave, additional pension savings, or paid out entirely.
- You receive 20 statutory vacation days per year, with the option to purchase 20 additional days through your IKB.
- The pension is premium-free, giving your net income a boost.
- You also receive an annual vitality allowance of €272.50 net.
